'Breaking Dawn' Part 2: Release Date Announced! & Condon Against 3D?

We knew that Breaking Dawn Part 1 is coming out November 18, 2011. Now we know how long we're gonna have to wait for the second part. Summit announced the news via twitter Tuesday:
EXCLUSIVE! You're the first to hear that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN - PART 2 will open in theatres November 16, 2012!
A few hours later Greg over at HitFix, wrote up a really good article on the reason it was scheduled that way:
It appears the summer release experiment for "The Twilight Saga" was not as successful as Summit Entertainment had hoped.

The Los Angeles Times agreed, and questioned how fans will react to such a long wait between part 1, and 2:
We were already a little perplexed that the first "Breaking Dawn" was being held for November 2011, putting nearly a 1-1/2 years between installments. With this announcement it's clear what Summit is thinking: Stick with the autumn and avoid the summer.

And while Summit is said to be considering doing at least one of the sequels in 3D, Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Bill Condon is against the idea:
Will the final installment be in 3-D? Summit says a decision has yet to be made, but sources say director Bill Condon and Co. are opting to NOT go for a third dimension.
Finally our favorite headline came from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

"The world may not end in 2012 but the "Twilight" franchise will -- on Nov. 16, 2012, to be exact.

Deep. So do you think it's too long of a wait between sequels? Share your thoughts!

  1. Actually, because Eclipse is released in the summer, I might just go to see it in the theatre once. There are other great summer movies that come out as well. I'm a fan but I'm not one of those people who would go see a movie.... like 4 or 5 times. I did see New Moon twice, however. So, perhaps it's a good thing that no more Twilight movies will be coming out in the summer, for Summit's sake.

  2. Actually, absence does not make the heart grow fonder! Both should be released much sooner. I have a feeling they are going to be duds anyhow. This type of momentum cannot last indefinitly and this is the first sequel type movie. Twihards will go, but the general public will be bored with it. Eclipse left a lot to be desired.
Rob is smart to keep doing other movies.

  3. Thank goodness the cast of Twilight are keeping busy making other films. I'd hate to go that long before seeing all those beautiful stars. I have to say that I don't think the heat will ever be as hot about Twilight as it is now and it might be a real mistake trying to drag it out. Looking at the Harry Potter Saga and what's happen to it....well we'll see. They have to get a whole new gathering of the youth reading and catching up to be as hot as they were when they first started the franchise.

  7. Way too long too wait. I wish I 'd have known that before I watched part 1 probably wouldn't have bothered. It's ridiculous to have to wait a full year to watch, lets face it, the best part of the book. Why they seperated it into two parts, i'll never know, they could have condensed the book easily into one film. It's all about the money, I suppose. Very disappointing especially as I am a massive fan of the books.

  11. If you release it so late everyone will forget about it, and a lot other good movies are going to come out, breaking dawn will become old and it will be all because it released that late besides we already suffered from watching eclipse and waiting for breaking dawn it's depressing to wait to know what happens for 2 hours. Now we have to wait even longer :( Think about the FANS!!!

  13. I really felt let down by Breaking dawn part 1, it did not have half as much action as previous twilight movies. I just assume that they spent the first part of breaking dawn building up on the storyline and the actual action and stunning climax will all be in part 2. As of yet I cannot wait for the 2nd part but if its expected to be a year for the next release, knowing myself i probably wont want to watch it as the excitement will have been ruined by the wait. Unless they wanna do a twiantholon type thing again and make more money by showing both parts one after the other! In that case I will just wait until a good copy is out to download or till its released on dvd!!!!

  14. I can not believe we are having to wait a full year to see part 2 of Breaking Dawn!! I am a HUGE Twilight fan! Read the books and watched the films, bought the box set but am MAJORLY DISSAPPOINTED!! it WAY too long! Think it should be realised sooner and that way the DVD will be out in time for Christmas next year and be a total sucess. If left to long i think the magic will leave for Twilight! Am a huge fan but i doubt if its left that long that i will bother to go see it. Its a shame really because Twilight is a hit just now< dont think leaving it will do the film any good. The films probably already recorded so i dont see why such a huge gap.

  15. i think it is too long but getting more and more excited about it. most people are going to be really annoyed like my mate because it is a long wait.it would be ALOT better if they done it even for a gap for a few months but a year! people will have to watch the first one again just to remember what has happened. but i can't wait till it comes out

  16. that is such a joke!! only reason they are waiting that long is to make more money. i love the books and dont think its fair to let fans waite so long to see the second part of the film. i think fans will be upset and angry im even thinking of not bothering and jus waiting untill i can watch it online. I dont see how the people deserve our money when they clearly arnt worried about making us happy and giving the fans what they want!!!

  17. To be honest i do think a year is a it long too wait even i am extremely excited!!! ps ... please don't do the last installment in 3D because then i wouldn't be able to watch it as 3D makes me feel ill :( thanks..

  19. I think its absolute shit that we have to wait another bloody year... cos likee I AM A HUGE twilight an... we shouldn/t have to wait so long. its just out of order. i bet they've finished filming it by now. Fucking twats.. all about the money. I <3 twilight but i just hate waiting...

  20. Too long. You'll forget important parts of the first half of the movie by the time the second one comes out. Or maybe they're hoping everybody will go buy the DVDs beforehand therefore making more money again. Less people go to the cinema in the summer as there are better things to do. Thats why they're waiting because again they'll make more money.
    Money money money
